The difference between nano ceramic and graphene: which suits your car better?

Both are coatings that add gloss, repel water and make washing easier. The difference we can vouch for is the warranty and the price: 3 years for nano ceramic and 5 years for graphene. Plus when to choose each one.

The difference between nano ceramic and graphene: which suits your car better?

"Should I get ceramic or graphene?" We hear this question every day at the branch. The honest answer is that the two are closer to each other in what they do than the adverts say. When it comes to graphene vs nano ceramic, the difference you can base your decision on is the warranty and the price.

What is the difference between nano ceramic and graphene?

Both are a clear coating applied to the paint for gloss, water repellency and easier washing. With us, the difference is in three things:

  • Warranty: nano ceramic 3 years, nano graphene 5 years.
  • Price: nano ceramic EGP 6,000, nano graphene EGP 9,000.
  • Origin: the nano ceramic we use is German, and the graphene is American.

What is nano ceramic?

It is a coating based on silicon dioxide, applied to the paint after it has been cleaned and polished. It gives a deeper gloss, and water and dust do not cling to it easily.

It is the cheaper option: EGP 6,000 and a 3-year warranty.

What is graphene?

It is the same idea of a coating, but with graphene, a form of carbon, added to the formula. It costs EGP 9,000 and carries a 5-year warranty.

Is graphene really better with heat and water spots?

That is what the manufacturers say: that graphene coatings withstand heat better and reduce water spots. We will not put a number on a claim like that for you, because there is no independent figure we can stand behind.

What we can stand behind is the warranty: 5 years for graphene against 3 for nano ceramic. That is two more years of warranty.

Which should I choose?

  • You want gloss and easier washing at the lowest cost: nano ceramic.
  • You plan to keep the car for longer and want a longer warranty: graphene.
  • You want protection from stone chips and scratches: neither of them. That is the job of paint protection film (PPF).

Either way, polishing and paint correction before the coating makes more difference to the result than the type of coating itself. The coating seals in whatever is underneath it, good or bad.

Why does graphene go under the paint protection film?

In the X Max packages and above, the coating applied to the paint under the film is graphene. The film is what faces the road, and the graphene is hidden beneath it.

That means two things:

  • Graphene with PPF in those packages carries a 10-year warranty.
  • If the film is removed one day, the graphene is intact, as if it were only just starting its life.

And the check-ups afterwards?

Nano ceramic and graphene both get a check-up with us every 6 months, free, even if they were applied without film. Day-to-day care is the same for both: care after protection.

The details are on the nano ceramic page and the graphene page. If you want to know what nano ceramic does and does not do, read nano ceramic, honestly.

Questions

01

How many years is the graphene warranty?

The American nano graphene carries a 5-year warranty when it is applied on its own. With paint protection film in the X Max package and above, its warranty is 10 years.
02

How much do graphene and nano ceramic cost?

The German nano ceramic is EGP 6,000, and the American nano graphene is EGP 9,000. The final price comes after the inspection.
03

Can I combine graphene with paint protection film?

Yes, and that is what the X Max package and above do: the graphene goes on the paint and the film is installed over it. If the film is removed, the graphene stays intact.
04

Does graphene protect against scratches and stone chips?

No. It is just like nano ceramic: a coating for gloss and easier washing. What stops stone chips and scratches is paint protection film.
