Does paint protection film damage the paint? Does it void the dealer warranty? 8 questions before you install
The questions that worry anyone before fitting paint protection film: the paint, the dealer warranty, the sun, yellowing and matte film. Each question has its answer in the first line, with no dodging.

Before you pay for paint protection film (PPF), it is natural to worry. The amount is not small, and what you read online is contradictory: one person tells you it ruins the paint, and another tells you the dealer will cancel the warranty. These are the eight questions people ask most, and each one has its answer in the first line.
Is paint protection film really important, or a luxury?
It is important if you want to protect the original paint from stone chips and scratches, and it is not necessary for everyone.
It will make a difference to you if:
- You travel a lot on highways, which is where stones hit the front end of the car.
- Your car is new and you plan to sell it in a few years with its original paint.
- You park in the street and the car gets scratched by everyday contact.
And if all you want is gloss and easier washing, nano ceramic or graphene is much cheaper and does that. The difference in detail is in PPF or nano ceramic.
Does paint protection film damage the paint?
No, genuine film fitted properly on factory paint does not damage it.
The known risk is in one case: a part that was painted after the factory. Paint sprayed outside the factory may bond more weakly than factory paint, and when the film is removed years later it may take a piece of that paint with it.
That is why you should tell the centre from the start if any part of your car has been resprayed, and have them look at it during the inspection.
Does paint protection film void the dealer warranty?
There is no single answer for all dealers, and we won't answer on their behalf.
The film is a layer on the outside of the paint, and it goes nowhere near the engine or the electrics. But warranty terms differ from one dealer to another, especially the part that covers the paint.
What to do: ask your dealer before you fit, and ask for the reply in writing, in a message or an email. A reply in writing from the dealer is better than the word of any centre, ours included.
Does paint protection film protect from the sun?
It protects the paint, not the cabin.
The film is what faces the sun, the dust and the bird droppings instead of the car's clear coat. The heat inside the car is a completely different matter, and that is the job of heat insulation film, which is fitted on the glass.
Does the film yellow over time?
Yellowing was a flaw of old and cheap films. Modern TPU films have higher resistance to the sun.
Counterfeit film is the one that yellows early, so the most important thing is to make sure that what is being fitted is genuine. The method is in How to know that paint protection film is genuine.
Is there a matte paint protection film?
Yes, and it is available in all five brands.
The colour itself doesn't change: black stays black, and what changes is the finish. Its warranty is the same as gloss, and it costs EGP 5,000 more on the whole car. The details are in Matte PPF.
Can the film be removed? And what happens to the paint underneath?
Yes, it can be removed at any time, by a technician and with heat.
The paint underneath was covered all those years, so the stone chips and scratches the film took never reached it. And in the X Max package and above, graphene is applied to the paint under the film: when the film is removed, the graphene is intact, as if its life were only just starting.
Should I cover the whole car or only parts?
It doesn't have to be the whole car. Choose according to how you use it:
- The whole car: from EGP 25,000 to EGP 45,000 depending on the type of film.
- The front end: a third of the price, meaning from EGP 8,500 to EGP 15,000. This is the part that takes most of the stone hits.
- The 4 doors, or the front end and rear end together: half the price.
The final price comes after the inspection, and the inspection is free. The rest of the options are on the PPF service page, and the difference between the five brands is in Paint protection film brands in Egypt.
